Bonus Tie-in 65 – Stand By Me

In this podcast we are tying into our month-long conversations about Stephen King’s adaptations from the 1980s with a debate about Stand by Me… which also happens to be the only non-horror adaptation we chose this month and deliberately placed it close to Halloween to swim against the current or something. At any rate, over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about the reasons why the King brand might have been removed from the movie, Rob Reiner finding himself in the story he was directing and the trials of casting a group of kids in a way that would convey the story’s innate authenticity. We also talk about the dangers of yearning after “the good old days,” the movie being both timeless and time-specific and how its accessible universality might have been the key to its success.
