John Cassavetes Marathon 01 – Shadows

Here’s a short teaser of the first episode of the 2023 edition of Uncut Gems Marathons where we will – one by one – re-trace the directorial career of John Cassavetes. In this show, we are officially starting with his 1959 debut feature, Shadows. Over the course of our conversation, you will hear us talk about Cassavetes as a cultural icon, the movie as an early example of indie filmmaking, the guerilla style of how it was made, the pros and cons of improvising a script and why – at least to some of us – this movie is like jazz.
